„Technology and Language“ is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal, published at Peter the Great Saint Petersburg Polytechnic University, Scopus-listed as of January 2024. It provides philosophical, cultural, historical perspectives on the manifold relations of technology and language. For a gallery of covers, tables of contents, and links for free download see below.
The journal promotes new ways of thinking about technology and about language. It is theoretically innovative by considering technology in terms of syntax and semantics and principles of composition, and by considering language in its dependence on techniques and technologies. These theoretical considerations will be informed by a broad range of interdisciplinary empirical investigations of the many relations of technology and language in our contemporary world – addressing the fields of history, linguistics, cultural studies, philosophy, anthropology, literary and media studies. The purpose of the journal is also to bring together an international community of researchers who explore the interfaces of technology and language.
We therefore want to draw attention to the activities and a series of online discussions hosted at the University of Vienna: „Languages of Technology: Prompts, Scripts, Narratives, and Grammars of Composition.“ The discussions are scheduled every second Wednesday of the month from 12-1:15 PM, including 15 minutes for a general exchange of information and opinions:
- 8 January 2025: Enrico Terrone & Nick Young (University of Genoa): „Through a Textbox Darkly: The Metaphysics of Large Language Models“
- 12 February 2025: Yingyu Zhu (TU Darmstadt) „Hermeneutics of Technology“
